Maths and Shadows...

Not two things you think might go together, but we got talking about shadows and shapes (again) after reading a book in class...

We went outside and 'found our shadows' in the sunshine, then we took turns to trace the shape with chalk...

When we'd finished drawing, we found our own shadows again and tried to 'fit' in their shapes.  It was a bit tricky as the sun had moved a little bit and the shadows were slightly different, but we got very close.  We noticed lots of shapes in our shadows ... can you see circles and triangles in the pictures?  We thought our bodies looked a bit like rectangles too.

When we came back to class we watched a cool little clip and played a game all about shadows.  We are good at knowing our shape names and guessing what shapes we need to form another.  Why don't you have a go too?  You can see it here.

For maths we have also been practising our basic facts to 5, 10 and for some of us to 20. We are getting a bit more confident and a lot faster at working out our sums.  We have been playing a game called Roll-A-Fact.  It is a good game for us to recall our basic facts.
